OVERVIEW OF STUDY ABROAD IN KOREA APPLICATIONS

Students wishing to study at Korean universities need to prepare documents to submit to the Visa Application Center (KVAC) to be granted a visa by the Korean Embassy or the Korean Consulate General in Vietnam to enter Korea for the purpose of studying and training. The list of types of documents is regulated by the visa issuing agency and visa applicants must ensure that they provide sufficient documents and carefully check personal information before submitting the application.

A visa is understood as a type of certificate issued by the immigration authority of a country to verify that a person is allowed to enter that country in the world. The duration of the visa depends on the purpose and type of visa issued. Visas will be issued directly at the embassy and consulate of that country.

The application for a Korean student visa includes the following basic items:

1. Application for a visa according to the form prescribed by the Korean Embassy or Consulate General in Vietnam;
2. Original invitation letter from a Korean university;
3. Academic records;
4. Personal information records;
5. Financial proof records;
6. Health certificate designated by the Korean Embassy or Consulate General.

I. VISA APPLICATION FORM

Students can get the visa application form directly at the Korean Visa Application Center or access the website of the Korean Embassy/Korean Consulate General to download and print out a paper copy.

The visa applicant must handwrite in English or Korean all the information on the application form according to regulations and is responsible for the information declared in the visa application.

II. DOCUMENTS OF KOREAN SCHOOLS

According to the regulations of the competent authority, visa applicants must be issued a written invitation letter by an individual/organization in Korea to be eligible to apply for a visa to enter Korea. In the case of studying in Korea, students must have an invitation letter from a Korean university to be able to apply for a visa at the Korean Embassy or the Korean Consulate General in Vietnam. The invitation letter from the university displays the information of the inviting party from Korea and the personal information of the student. In addition, the invitation letter also displays the purpose of entry and the tuition fee for studying at the school. This is a form of guarantee for students with legitimate purposes of entry from Korean universities.

III. ACADEMIC RECORDS

The next item that students need to pay attention to is the documents proving the learning and training process from high school graduation onwards. The information displayed in the documents about scores and degrees is an important criterion to evaluate whether the student’s learning ability and training attitude are suitable for the training program at Korean universities or not. A good and advantageous profile is one with average or higher subject scores, the number of absentee classes shows diligence in class, the teacher’s comments and assessments are an intuitive aspect of comments, and the graduation classification assesses the student’s ability.

Academic records must be authenticated by the consulate to prove the authenticity of the documents and degrees.

IV. PERSONAL INFORMATION DOCUMENTS

In the category of personal information documents, students need to pay attention to the following items:

1. Passport: The visa applicant’s passport must be valid for more than 6 months, showing full information, especially the place of birth;
2. Birth certificate: Original or Copy;
3. Citizen identification card of the visa applicant and financial sponsor;
4. Confirmation of residence information: showing full information of family members;

These documents need to be translated into English or Korean and notarized according to the regulations of the receiving agency.

V. FINANCIAL PROOF DOCUMENTS

To obtain a Korean student visa, students need a financial guarantor to prove that they have enough money to pay all expenses such as tuition, living expenses and other expenses during their studies and stay in Korea. The financial guarantor is a relative of the student: biological parents/ grandparents/ siblings, etc. These relationships must be proven by personal documents.

The person who sponsors the student will have to prove their relationship with the student and prove their job with the following basic documents:

– In case parents or family other than parents provide financial support:

• Notarized translation ( Korean or English ) of documents proving family relationship such as household registration , residence information confirmation ( CT07 ) , birth certificate​​​​​​​​​​​
• Original and notarized translation ( Korean or English ) of parents ‘ income and occupation certificates​​​​​​​
• Original and notarized translation ( Korean or English ) of financial guarantee commitment letter​
• Other assets proof​​​​

– In case a relative other than the parents with Korean nationality provides financial support:

• Notarized translation ( Korean or English ) of documents proving family relationship such as household registration , residence information confirmation ( CT07 ) , birth certificate​​​​​​​​​​​
• Original of professional documents such as employment certificate or business registration certificate​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
• Original financial guarantee and personal guarantee ( signed and sealed )​​
• Original certified copy of financial guarantor ‘s signature​​​
• Copy of bank account balance certificate and copy of account number of financial guarantor​
• Copy of the financial sponsor ‘s citizenship certificate​​​

– Financial documents of the person in charge of the university (for example, the professor in charge):

• Original copy of financial guarantee letter from the instructor ( signed and sealed )​
• Original certificate of acceptance or signature of the instructor​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

* Submit a certificate of seal if stamping the Financial Guarantee , submit a certificate of signature if signature .​​​​​​​​​​​​​

• Original certificate of professional qualifications of the instructor​​​​​
• Copy of bank account balance confirmation and copy of the professor ‘s account number​
• In case of paying for scholarships under the name of research expenses , it can be replaced by documents such as a copy of the certificate of account balance of the training institution to which the research expenses have been transferred , a certificate of capacity to pay scholarships , a certificate of confirmation of the seal of the training institution .​​​​​​​​​​​​

– In case of financial guarantee company:

• Copy of labor contract with branch in Vietnam​​​​​
• Notarized translation ( Korean or English ) of investment certificate of Vietnam branch​​​​
• Original copy of business registration certificate of parent company in Korea ( issued within the last 3 months )​​​
• Original financial guarantee and personal guarantee ( stamped by the company )​
• Original company seal certificate​​​​​
• Copy of ID card of financial guarantor ( representative director )​​

– In case students receive scholarships:

• In case students are supported with 100 % of tuition and living expenses : Original copy of scholarship certificate ( stamped with the same stamp as on the admission paper )​​​

In case of receiving a scholarship of less than 100 % : Original copy of scholarship certificate and financial proof for the amount of money you have to pay

An indispensable item in the financial proof file is a savings book deposited at a Vietnamese bank . Certificate of account balance ( account holder is the visa applicant ) and savings account statement :​​​​​​​​

– College and higher education :

• Capital Region : Balance​​ At least 20 million won deposited for at least 3 months or more​
• Location : Remainder​​​​ At least 16 million won deposited for at least 3 months or more​

– Exceptional cases :​​​​​​​

• In case students study under D – 2-4 ~ D-2-8 visa , the savings account does not need to be deposited for at least 3 months in advance .
• In case students go to counseling school , the savings book must be kept for at least 6 months or more .​​​​​​​​​

– For exchange students : Savings account with balance at least equal to living expenses proportional to length of stay ( 1,069,654 won / month x number of months of stay )​​​​​​​

– For language students :​​​​

• Capital Region : Balance​​ At least 10 million won deposited for at least 6 months or more​
• Location : Remainder​​​​ At least 8 million won deposited for at least 6 months or more​

However , in case of D – 2 with a stay of less than 01 year , the application fee + living expenses in proportion to the stay period will be applied . The certificate of account balance in Vietnamese Dong will be calculated according to the exchange rate of that day and transferable savings will not be recognized .​​​​​​​

VI . HEALTH EXAMINATION PAPER​

With the increasing number of Vietnamese students wishing to study abroad in Korea , it is necessary to designate hospitals with the authority to examine and issue health certificates . Due to the weather and adapting to the new environment , students must also prove that they are in good health .​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ stay in Korea for a long period of time .​​
